The property market in Lake Balaton, Hungary, continues to offer real potential for capital growth, on the back of growing tourism levels.

Homes surrounding, what is the largest lake in central Europe, remain reasonably priced. Anglo Properties is currently selling a 3-bedroom house for just €63,000 (approx £50,000).

Lake Balaton used to be a neutral meeting place for Germans that were divided by the Berlin Wall, during the 1960s and 1970s. The area today continues to attract a number of German holidaymakers, and more recently some Britons.

Direct flight from the UK was recently introduced, when Ryanair started weekly flights from London Stanstead, to the recently opened Sármellék International Airport, near to Lake Balaton.

Geoff Vale of Anglo Properties comments: “Lake Balaton is similar to the UK of old. There is very little traffic and the area is full of tree-lined roads and vast wooded areas, while the cost of living here is cheap.”
